Neil J. Moran is a partner in The Freitas Law Firm, LLP which he joined in 1981. He handles trial matters in state and federal courts. Neil has been selected as a Northern California “Super Lawyer,” a designation awarded to the top 5% of attorneys in Northern California. The focus of his litigation practice is the representation of corporate and individual clients in litigation arising out of business, contract, fiduciary, construction and real estate disputes. He is peer rated “AV Preeminent, 5.0/5.0.”

Mr. Moran’s jury trials range from three days to eight weeks in length in Marin, San Francisco, Sonoma, and Mendocino Superior Courts. Neil has served as a mediator and arbitrator in hundreds of cases involving construction, real estate, land use, personal injury, business practices, toxic torts, trusts and probate.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from U.C. Santa Barbara, where he served as president of the student body and was a member of the Scholars College. After receiving his law degree at Hastings Law School in 1980, Mr. Moran worked as an associate with Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold where he practiced civil litigation.
Mr. Moran teaches trial advocacy skills for the University of San Francisco’s Intensive Advocacy Program and has taught litigation skills at Hastings and Stanford.

His ties to Marin County date to the 1930s when his grandfather became the 12th lawyer in Marin. Neil resides in San Rafael with his wife Lynn (USF Law 1979). Daughter Katie is an Assistant District Attorney in Contra Costa County. She graduated summa cum laude from USF Law School and Phi Beta Kappa from U.C. Santa Barbara where she was an All-American lacrosse player. Younger daughter Sarah is an associate at Gunderson Dettmer in Redwood City. Sarah graduated from Hastings College of the Law and Harvard University, where she rowed four years for the women’s varsity crew team.
