Expert Witness

The Freitas Law Firm, LLP offers expert witness consultations and expert testimony. Expert witnesses are often an essential and critical part of a successful lawsuit. Experts are relied upon for their knowledge that is not within the general purview of a non-expert, and can assist juries, clients, and other attorneys in understanding important aspects of the issues of their case.

The expert witness is frequently an underrated consideration. However, the role of this individual whose opinion provides insights into complex, often technical matters has always been of extraordinary importance. Selecting the right expert is a difficult, high-stakes task. As every seasoned litigator knows, the expert you select needs not only to represent your litigation posture but also needs to present well, whether at deposition or on the witness stand at trial. This weighty decision should not be based solely on a prospective expert’s CV.

Since 1994 Neil Moran has provided services as an expert witness, testifying approximately 20 times in deposition and five times in trial in the following subjects:

  • Attorneys’ Standard of Care
  • Value of Legal Services
  • Law Practice Management
  • Attorney Ethics
  • Interpretation of Easement Agreements

Neil has been recognized as a Northern California “Super Lawyer” since 2014, a recognition awarded to the top 5% of attorneys in the area. He is peer-rated AV Preeminent 5.0/5.0. Neil has taught at continuing legal education programs regarding attorneys’ fees motions, handling landslide lawsuits, and litigating real estate non-disclosure lawsuits. Neil has served as a Judge Pro Tem, Discovery Referee, Special Master, Fee Dispute Panelist, Discovery Facilitator, Judicial Arbitrator and Settlement Panelist for the Marin County Courts. He also serves as an Arbitrator for the Marin County Bar Association’s Fee Arbitration Program. Mr. Moran teaches trial advocacy at the University of San Francisco Law School Intensive Advocacy Program and has taught similar courses at Hastings and Stanford Law schools. Neil has lectured for the Marin County Bar Association and the Consumer Attorneys of California.

For the past 39 years Neil’s practice has emphasized civil litigation in the California state courts in the San Francisco Bay Area. His clients’ matters involve real estate, construction, trusts and wills, commercial law and personal injury.
