  NEIL J. MORAN

Neil J. Moran is a partner in Freitas McCarthy MacMahon & Keating LLP, which he joined in 1981. He handles trial matters in state and federal courts, primarily in the North Bay area. The focus of his litigation practice is the representation of corporate and individual clients in litigation arising out of business, contract, fiduciary, construction and real estate disputes.

Mr. Moran’s jury trials range from three days to eight weeks in length in Marin, San Francisco, Sonoma, and Mendocino Superior Courts. In addition to the practice of law, he has successfully mediated and arbitrated hundreds of cases involving construction, real estate, land use, personal injury, business practices, toxic torts, trusts and probate.

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from U.C. Santa Barbara, where he served as president of the student body and was a member of the Scholars College. After receiving his law degree at Hastings Law School in 1980, Mr. Moran worked as an associate with the San Francisco law firm of Sedgwick, Detert, Moran & Arnold where he practiced civil litigation.

Mr. Moran teaches trial advocacy skills for the University of San Francisco’s Intensive Advocacy Program and has taught litigation skills at Hastings and Stanford.

His ties to Marin County date to the 1930s when his grandfather became the 12th lawyer in Marin. Neil resides in San Rafael with his wife Lynn (USF Law 1979). His daughter Mary Kate is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of U.C. Santa Barbara, a three-time All American lacrosse player and WDIA national lacrosse player of the year. Katie teaches English at Balboa High School in San Francisco. Neil's younger daughter Sarah attends Harvard College, where she rows for the Women's Varsity crew team.
